Emre Lake (Emre Gölü)

  • Emre Lake, the focal point of the historical Phrygian Valley, is the smallest natural lake within the boundaries of Afyonkarahisar. It covers an area of approximately 5 km². It is located in the Phrygian Valley between the districts of İhsaniye, Döğer, and Bayramaliler.
  • As part of the Phrygian Valley Development Project, Emre Lake opened to service in 2018 with its social facility. Here, you can take a boat tour on the lake with a replica of King Midas's ship, observe the Phrygian rock monuments around the lake, and explore the region. You can have fun by renting bicycles and enjoy food and drinks with a view of the lake.

Yılanlıtaş

  • Yılanlıtaş is located in the rocky Göynüş Valley, west of the Aslantaş Monument, in Kayıhan Town of İhsaniye District, Afyon. It is named Yılanlıtaş (Snake Stone) because two snakes are coiled around each other in front of the monument, and there are two warriors holding spears and embracing a snake on both sides of the gate. You can see a lion head relief and a claw relief on the outside. It is believed to have been built around 700 BC.

Matlaş

  • Matlaş, located near Aslantaş and Yılanlıtaş monuments in Kayıhan district of İhsaniye, Afyon, is an open-air Phrygian sanctuary built in the 8th century BC. It is the most important Phrygian monument of the century. Behind the monument, there is a niche with a fountain and a mihrab with a cover. It is believed that this well was used to store gifts for the goddess Cybele.

Kapıkaya-2

  • Located in the rocky area stretching from Emre Lake to the village of Üçlerkayası, Döğer town, Afyon, Kapıkaya-2 Monument resembles a wooden temple carved from the western lavas. Due to the loose rock structure, the upper triangular part of the roof melted, and a niche with the statue of the goddess Cybele in front of it was opened. This monument, believed to have been built around 7th century BC, has a ritual protrusion that is thought to have been made for the goddess Cybele during the Phrygian period.

Phrygian Valley

  • The Phrygian Valley offers several interesting places to explore, including churches, Metropolis, Peri Bacaları (Fairy Chimneys), and the Avdalas Castle in Ayazini.
  • You can reach Aslantaş, the royal tomb chamber, and Matlaş's open-air Phrygian sanctuary from the 28th kilometer on the Afyonkarahisar-Seyitgazi road, from the Göynüş Valley plateau.
