Istanbul Airport is one of the largest airports in the world, and for first-time visitors the walk from the plane to the arrivals hall can feel long. This guide walks you through each step after landing and explains how to meet your private transfer driver.
1. Leaving the plane and passport control
After leaving the aircraft, follow the "Arrivals" and "Passport Control" signs. The airport is big, so the walk from your gate can be long – moving walkways help. At busy times the passport queue can take a while; there are separate lanes for Turkish citizens and foreign visitors.
Visa: Requirements depend on your nationality. If you need one, get your e-visa from the official Turkish e-Visa website before you travel and keep a printed or digital copy with you.
2. Baggage claim
After passport control you reach the baggage hall. Screens show the belt number next to your flight. Check the tag when you pick up your suitcase. If your bag doesn't arrive, go to the Lost & Found desk before leaving the hall and let your driver know via WhatsApp – they will wait for you.
3. Customs and the arrivals hall
If you have nothing to declare, take the green channel into the arrivals hall. Here you'll find currency exchange offices, ATMs, eSIM/SIM card shops and cafés – a good moment to sort these out before meeting your driver.
4. Meeting your driver
Your Departure Delux driver waits at the arrivals hall exit holding a sign with your name. The exact meeting point and your driver's name, phone number and number plate are sent via WhatsApp or SMS before your transfer. If you can't see your driver when you come out:
- Turn on mobile data or connect to the airport Wi-Fi and check WhatsApp.
- Call your driver's number or our 24/7 support line (+90 535 717 1816).
- Describe where you are (a nearby gate number, shop or café).
Fixed-price private transfer
See the price for your route instantly on the booking page. Flight tracking, a name-sign meet & greet and free waiting if your flight is delayed are included.
5. To the car and on your way
Your driver helps with your luggage and walks you to the car in the car park. From Istanbul Airport, central areas such as Taksim and Sultanahmet usually take 45–75 minutes depending on traffic. Just tell your driver if you need water or a short stop on the way.
If your flight is delayed or early
Thanks to the flight number you gave when booking, your driver tracks your landing time live. If your flight is late or early, the pickup time adjusts – you pay nothing extra for delays. There's no need to rush through passport control or baggage claim.
Quick pre-arrival checklist
- Passport and e-visa (if required)
- Booking confirmation and driver details on your phone
- A phone with WhatsApp, or access to airport Wi-Fi
- Your hotel name and address
- Some local currency or a contactless card
